Movement Of The Spirit During Feeding Time
The Cincinnati Zoo hippos have a bit of an international following. Our most famous hippo, Fiona, was born prematurely several years ago and the city, state, nation, and parts of the world were on pins and needles for several months wondering and hoping she would live through those first fragile days of life. Thanks to many smart doctors and generous benefactors, she did make it. She is thriving now and, in fact, has a sibling named Fritz. Mom and brother and sister were very active when we came to visit them today.
We leveraged a little bit of our luck because it so happened the timing our visit to the hippo enclosure coincided with the time they have their lunch. So we all (me, my wife, and daughter, and her four children) got to watch the massive beasts devour their lunch of romaine lettuce heads, quartered cantaloupe melons, and halved oranges, some of which you can see in the attached photo. It took three zoo employees to carry and distribute lunch to the hippo family.
The Cincinnati Zoo has a good reputation in the international zoological community for developing ways to care for and protect a multitude of species. I’m impressed with the effort and passion that is required to keep the place up well and to keep the animals healthy enough to thrive in an environment that is not exactly like their native lands, but maybe closer to it than some zoos can reproduce. I see the Spirit moving through the actions of those zoologists, grounds keepers, and benefactors as Fiona and her family chomp down some delicious fruits and vegetables.
What happened in your ordinary life today where you can now see the Spirit at work?
